A Tropical, Heartfelt Wedding at Hacienda Siesta Alegre, Puerto Rico — Monica & Greg

Some stories don’t start on the wedding day. This one started in a tulip field in the Netherlands.

Back in 2024, we photographed the maternity session of Shannon and Brian — friends of Monica and Greg — somewhere in the bloom of spring in the Netherlands. That one session led to Abbey and Pete reaching out to us for their New York wedding. And Abbey and Pete’s wedding is how Monica and Greg found us. One connection, quietly threading itself through years and continents, until it led us here: to Puerto Rico, to Hacienda Siesta Alegre, to the very first wedding of our 2026 season — surrounded by familiar faces we hadn’t expected to see again so soon.

This is why we do what we do.

Monica & Greg

Monica and Greg are New Yorkers through and through, but for their wedding day, they chose the island. Puerto Rico had been calling, and Hacienda Siesta Alegre answered. With around 100 guests gathered from their world, this was a celebration that felt both intimate and electric — the kind of wedding where the energy in the room tells you everything about the couple at the centre of it.

Hacienda Siesta Alegre

If you haven’t heard of Hacienda Siesta Alegre as a wedding venue, let this be your introduction. Tucked into the mountains of Puerto Rico, the hacienda offers something rare: an elevated rural setting that feels completely alive. The lush landscape, the open air, the mountain views — it’s the kind of backdrop that does the heavy lifting and then some.

Monica and Greg leaned into it beautifully. The aesthetic was tropical and colourful, with vibrant floral elements by Lorraine’s Flowers that felt like a natural extension of the island itself rather than decoration placed on top of it. Nothing felt forced. Everything felt like Puerto Rico.

The Ceremony

The first look set the tone — quiet, emotional, and completely theirs. By the time the ceremony began, surrounded by nature and the mountains of the island, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. The setup was breathtaking: an open-air altar framed by lush greenery, with the kind of natural beauty that no amount of styling can replicate. Coordinated seamlessly by the team at Handcrafted Weds, every detail was considered without ever feeling overdone.

Photography by Christopher Feliciano captured the day alongside us — and with sound by GF Sound Inc setting the atmosphere from start to finish, the sensory experience of this wedding was something else entirely.

The Party

When the live band took over, the celebration shifted into another gear. With over 100 guests dancing under the Puerto Rican sky, the energy was the kind you feel in your chest. Colourful, joyful, and completely uninhibited — exactly the kind of reception that reminds you why destination weddings exist.

A Full Circle Moment

What made this day even more meaningful for us was the people in the room. Shannon and Brian, whose maternity session started this whole chain of events, were there as guests. So were Abbey and Pete, whose New York wedding we shot just last year. Standing in that hacienda, camera in hand, surrounded by faces we’d photographed across different countries and different chapters of their lives — it felt like more than a job. It felt like belonging to something.

One session. One yes. One connection. And suddenly we’re starting our 2026 season on an island, surrounded by people whose stories we’ve had the privilege of being part of.

We can’t wait to go back.
